Barns are a piece of classic Americana and are a common theme when driving around the hills of rural Vermont. This scene in Woodstock was made a little bit more classic with the American Flag perfectly draped across the doors of this white horse stable on a late summertime afternoon.
One of my favorite things to do around here is without a doubt to take a drive, and within the New England area I don’t think there are many spots better than along Route 100. The open lanes and landscapes are just stunning, and they feature both beauty within the moment but also strike up so many thoughts about the history along the scenic lands.
This slice of a backroad near the tiny town of Warren is the kind of road that is just a pleasure to cruise upon and take in the sights and sounds and fresh mountain air.
This roadside scene along Route 100 had so many things that I think of when I think of Vermont. A quaint home, maple syrup for sale, a mountain backdrop, and a touch of fall color are all priceless details that make the Green Mountain State shine.
With all the strangeness of these virus times we have been living in this summer i’ve put a lot of thought and emphasis into one of my favorite picture projects that i’ve worked on over the past few years, the waterfalls of New England. It’s something I never get tired of doing and in a time when everything about crowds is different than before, these hidden gems are what I think of as my favorite hiding spots within the land. Fall is right around the corner as I type this and I will always remember this rainy autumn morning within the leaf blanketed forests of Stowe when I made this picture.
The old and worn in architecture and surrounding landscape of the Woodstock area make for some of New England’s finest scenery, and this farmhouse has all the elements of tradition within it’s construction. Shutters and fireplaces and even some swans as an entryway greeting, this old home is everything that I think of when picturing New England living.
Working within the landscape of Vermont this summer has surely been one of my highlights of the past few months. As much as people feel magnetized by the autumn colors, I have say that personally I feel the full of life feeling that the landscape has within the summer months is probably my favorite season. I did a lot of land and farm scenery during my travels, and there were several days that had morning light more magical than my own dreams of landscape imagery.
