This abstract scene has been a print that I love for the past few years and for me it really summarizes the vibe and beauty of Nantucket Island. The gem of a location that rests about a marathon away from the Cape Cod mainland is all about the ocean and on this cold autumn evening the waters were churning away with a beautiful layering of pastel colors within the clouds.
It will always be one of my favorite places to work and this one will be a picture i’ll always think of when wishing I was back out on the island.
Nantucket is one of my favorite places to work, it’s a magical little island filled with beautiful locations and history that converge together wonderfully. Summer brings a particular vibrance to the island as the warm waters surround the coast and green grass and trees fill the land.
This picture is the coastline on the Northwest corner of the island from atop a wind swept dune that drops off as a cliff just a few feet from where I was standing.
Waves have a wonderful quality about them in that they are all fleeting moments. No one is exactly the same as another, and they arrive and vanish before our eyes with a magic and resonance that is a thing of beauty.
While there is a hardly a bad spot on this earth to watch the waves, I would have to say one of my favorites is from along the sandy shores of Nantucket. This one was a cold evening on the island with storms and big surf on the way but a hint of color out there on the endless horizon as well making for a classic scene along the landscape at Miacomet.
